About Katrina Aid Today's Work
United Methodist Committee on Relief led a consortium of providers in a two-year case management grant worth $66 million. The agreement with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, has benefited some 192,888 people scattered by the winds throughout the 50 states.
The 10 organizations selected by a grants review board to participate in the consortium have overseen 3,000 professional staff and volunteers. These people assisted 73,064 households displaced by Hurricane Katrina to rebuild their lives. Trained by UMCOR, the staff and volunteers helped survivors identify sources of support, develop personal recovery plans, acquire access to services and take appropriate actions to bring them to self-sufficiency. FEMA supervised the implementation of the grant.
